Amy Coney Barrett Fails the Finkbeiner Test
Amy Coney Barrett has seven children–which is definitely amazing, really difficult, a remarkable accomplishment, etc. But it does not qualify her to become a Supreme Court Justice. Being an insightful legal scholar and empathetic and thoughtful judge would qualify her for that. Women’s domestic and family lives–like men’s–don’t really have bearing on their professional capacities. Ann Finkbeiner points out that such things are rarely mentioned in profiles of men’s careers, and thus they should not be mentioned in profiles of women’s careers either. Read more about Amy Coney Barrett’s family here and about the Finkbeiner test here.
This is important for you because being a mom is great. But you have other important things in your life too.
