Your Diaper Bag Essentials for Fall

The seasons are changing and the days of long summer strolls in the sunshine feel like a distant memory. With the arrival of Fall, those morning walks with the stroller are now wading through piles of fallen leaves, there is a distinct chill in the air and you would do anything to make sure your baby is kept warm, happy and content. It’s time to mix up your diaper bag contents for Fall. As well as your usual diaper bag essentials, here are the additional items you should pack in your bag for Fall.

Layers Layers Layers – Babies, particularly young babies, aren’t able to efficiently regulate their body temperature, so whilst it’s important to keep them warm, it’s also important to monitor them closely and make sure they don’t overheat. Layering up with vests, baby grows and cardigans is ideal as layers can easily be removed when you go indoors or into a heated environment. It is recommended to pack lots of spares in your diaper bag too, so you can quickly change and keep them dry in the case of diaper explosions!

Breathable Blankets – For an extra layer when its chilly outside, take along a thick breathable blanket that can be layered on top of the stroller. Be careful that it doesn’t drag across the sides, as its all too easy to get them caught up in the wheels of your stroller. Ones that can be looped around the frame of the stroller are ideal as are much less likely to be accidentally pushed off or discarded by wriggly feet!

Spare socks – Unless your baby is in an all in one suit with integrated feet, make sure you pack some spare socks in your diaper bag, then add a few more pairs just for good measure!  It’s a well-known fact that most babies have a somewhat Houdini way of wriggling out of even the most secure pairs of socks – and the last thing you want is cold tiny toes! Keep some spares to hand and keep an eye out for any that go astray!

Hand Sanitiser – In Fall and Winter when the cold weather arrives, it’s the ideal breeding environment for germs. Pack a small pot of hand sanitizer in your diaper bag to make sure your hands are clean and hygienic before you change your baby. You can also wipe down and clean any surfaces or changing stations before you use them too.

Knitted Hat – Is there anything cuter than a bobble hat on a baby? A warm woollen hat that covers those tiny ears is a must. Again I would recommend taking a spare; particularly if you have an older baby, who may consider pulling their hat off as the best game ever invented!

A Flask of Hot Drink – Finally; Happy Mom, Happy Baby! When out and out about in Fall it’s important to look after yourself too, which includes staying hydrated and warm. Invest in a high-quality flask that will keep a drink hot for hours so you can sip on the go without needing to pay the extortionate prices of take out teas and coffees!

There is something really comforting about stopping on a park bench, hands wrapped around a hot drink whilst your baby sleeps. Taking a bit of time to embrace the colours of the Fall landscapes around you is also great for your mental health.

Whilst Fall can at times leave us longing for those warmer humid days; there is also something really magical about this time of year. Embrace the great outdoors, get some much needed fresh air and vitamin D and enjoy it. Before you know it, it will be Christmas!
