NY to cover breast milk donations

The New York State Legislature voted that Medicaid will now cover pasteurized donor human milk for preemies in the NICU whose own mothers can’t supply enough milk. Although milk donors receive no compensation, the New York Milk Bank requires a fee from recipients to cover operating costs. California, Missouri, Kansas, Texas, and Utah already provide Medicaid coverage for donor milk. Millennial parents, true to type, opt for telemedicine

A survey of 2,000 American parents indicated that they intend to use Skype, rather than office visits, for everyday childhood issues like sore throats, pink eye, and well visits. The main reason cited for doing so was to avoid long waiting times. Read more here.

Set bedtimes can prevent – obesity

Bedtime with little ones can be really hard. Experts insist that establishing a regular sleep schedule is important for kids’ moods and functioning – not to mention parents’ sanity. But a new study now indicates that regular bedtimes can reduce kids’ risk of obesity later in life, which in turn is a risk factor for a host of other health problems. The research showed that the lack of a regular bedtime routine at age three is an independent predictor of obesity at age eleven. Read more here.
