How America fails parents

Dana Suskind is a professor of surgery and pediatrics at the University of Chicago Medical Center and the director of the University of Chicago Medicine’s Pediatric Hearing Loss and Cochlear Implant Program. In her new book, Parent Nation, she details how individual parents cannot–and should not be expected to–care for and educate their 0-3 year olds on their own. Systemic, not personal, reforms are required to make sure that all toddlers receive the attention and care their brains need to grow and develop. Alas, our society hardly helps out at all.
