Aerobic Exercise during pregnancy

This is one of those areas where doctors give conflicting advice, so it’s hard to know what’s real. The issue is that changing your heart rate might change the fetus’ heart rate. But in and of itself–since we know the reason the fetus’ heart rate is altered is because yours is–that is probably not a problem. Read more here.

Formula safety

The FDA acknowledged that there were serious problems with their regulation of infant formula safety, but some parents think they didn’t go far enough. And despite the acknowledgement not much has changed. Read more here.

This is important for you because “Parents are often unaware of the fact that [powdered] infant formula is not sterile and can come with risks, even if such illnesses are very rare.” Liquid formula is a safer bet.

Newborn genetic screening in the UK

The Newborn Genomes Program will sequence the entire genomes of 100,000 newborns in the UK. The goal is to spare parents the very long and painful diagnostic odyssey that people born with rare genetic disorders had to endure in the past. The quicker diagnosis will also allow them to start treatment earlier. The program will screen for 200 treatable disorders. Read more here.
