Pregistry’s Friday Recipe: Ginger Tea

Whether it’s the change of seasons, allergies or just a basic common cold, it’s nice to have a natural alternative to the myriad bottles lurking in your cabinet.

This soothing, slightly sweet, mildly spicy tea is quick and easy to make. You can adjust any of the ingredients, switch up the sweetener, and make it as mild (or spicy) as you like.

And here’s a tip for what to do with any leftover ginger you have. Peel and cut into 1” – 2” chunks. Place in a clean jar and fill to cover with sherry cooking wine; store in the fridge. The cooking wine preserves the ginger, and you’ll always have fresh ginger on-hand!

Ginger Tea:

  • 2 tablespoons grated fresh ginger (use the large hole side of a box grater)
  • 2 cups boiling water
  • 1 – 2 tablespoons honey
  • 2 tablespoons fresh lemon juice
  • Pinch of cayenne pepper

Place the ginger in a small bowl – pour the boiling water over, cover and let stand for 5 – 10 minutes. Strain the ginger and add the remaining ingredients. Drink the tea as hot as you can stand it.
